Labs

Experimental features you can try in Motivd. These may change or be removed; we use Labs to test ideas before making them part of the main product.

What Labs are

Labs are early-stage or experimental features available in Project settings → Labs. They are not part of the core product promise: we may modify behavior, rename options, or remove a Lab feature based on feedback or technical constraints. Enabling a Lab means you’re okay with that uncertainty.

Use Labs to get early access to new capabilities (for example, different ways to work with your GitHub repo). If a Lab is later promoted to a full feature, we’ll document it in the main user guide and project docs.

GitHub branch switching

GitHub branch switching (when available) lets you choose which branch of your connected GitHub repository the builder uses when making edits.

What it does

  • In Project settings → Labs, you can enable GitHub branch switching.
  • Once enabled, you can select the branch (e.g. main, develop, or a feature branch) that the workspace agent and code updates target.
  • This is useful if you keep a stable main branch and do experiments on another branch, or if you collaborate with others using different branches.

Current status

This feature is currently disabled in the UI. When we enable it, you’ll see a working control in Settings → Labs and full instructions here. Until then, all edits continue to apply to the default branch configured for your project (usually main).

When it’s available

We’ll announce when GitHub branch switching is turned on (e.g. in release notes or in-app messaging). After that, you can enable it in Labs and use the branch selector in project settings or the workspace.

Other Labs

We may add more experimental features under Labs over time (e.g. alternative preview modes, experimental AI behaviors, or new integration options). Each will be listed in Settings → Labs with a short description and a link back to this page for details.

If you have feedback or requests about Labs, contact us through the app or our support channels.
